It was a Saturday flower delivery for Mothers Day; a sweet reminder from our lovely daughter, Jodi and husband Tom, at home in California with two young children of their own. Centered on our dining room table, morning light displayed their gift in splendid color. African violets seemed subdued even in their warmth. Beyond full light, their subtle presence could be seen in velvet reds of warm, close values. Like us, I thought; here to be seen in available light by people inclined to look for us. Rich in color and diversity, we are seen for our differences long before our similarities. And like these lovely flowers, our differences truly matter. What a gift.
